What it is
MediaFold is a local-only macOS player and library for files already on your Mac or attached drives. It does not create an account and does not include a MediaFold server, ads, or cloud sync.
Price
Free to download from the Mac App Store.
7-Day Full-Feature Trial
US$11.99 One-Time Purchase
No Subscription. No Ads.
The trial starts only after you confirm a US$0 Apple purchase. It does not automatically charge US$11.99. Reinstalling does not restart the trial. Restore Purchases reads the original trial start or the lifetime unlock on that Apple ID.
What it does
- Play local video and audio you open (including MP4, MOV, MKV and other containers the app supports)
- Keep a library of folders you authorize, with playback memory and on-device thumbnails
- Navigate chapters, preview the timeline, and repeat an A–B range for the current playback session
- Choose audio and subtitle tracks through ordered language preferences
- Render SRT and ASS subtitles locally, with plain-text fallback when rich ASS rendering is unavailable
- Decode common video with VideoToolbox; demux some containers with bundled LGPL FFmpeg libraries
0.3.0 professional playback
MediaFold 0.3.0 (build 5) adds chapter navigation, timeline previews generated on device, current-session A–B repeat, and ordered BCP-47 audio and subtitle language preferences.
Full ASS layout and styling use pinned libass 0.17.5. Font sources are embedded media attachments, system fonts, and accessible fonts beside the media or in its Fonts folder. Plain-text subtitles remain available if rich rendering cannot start.
Timeline previews use a persistent 300 MB local filesystem LRU cache. Playback analysis, thumbnails, preferences, and subtitle rendering remain on the Mac and require no new network permission. Release QA passed 120 automated tests plus App Store distribution-signature, entitlement, privacy-manifest, dependency, and license audits.
What it does not do
MediaFold does not play or advertise Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, or DTS. Restricted tracks are detected and either switched to a playable alternative or failed with an explicit error.
It does not stream from the network, search torrents, move or delete original media, or use the camera or microphone.
